On Friday, November 20th, Join Laura Van Gilder @ NYC Velo Hell’s Kitchen for a Women’s Cycling Seminar
Laura Van Gilder has over 350 victories to her credit over a quarter-century as a bike racer. Not bad for someone who started racing at 26 years of age.
She’s coming to NYC Velo Hell’s Kitchen at 600 11th avenue on Friday November 20th at 6:30pm to talk cycling.
Van Gilder, even at 50 is going strong as a pro. Her current team, Mellow Mushroom presented by Van Dessel Cycles, gives her the freedom to chase her racing interests. One of which is cyclocross. Here, too, she’s a late starter, having first tried the muddy discipline in 2008.
Her career includes one national championship on the road, two National Race Series Championships on the road, two USCX championships, two NECX championships, four USCX Championships, and four times representing the United States at the World Championships, (two on the road, two in cx).
She knows what its like to start a sport late. She knows what it’s like to be “the girl” in a boys town. She knows how to keep it fun and rewarding. Lots of wisdom from experience. And she loves sharing it. On Saturday, she’ll be at the Supercross Cup, looking for another victory.
When she’s finished, stick around. Frankie Andreu, a former pro himself, will be talking and introducing. For The Love of Mud, a feature-length documentary meditating on and celebrating cyclocross. Also free.
