Van Dessel bicycles are born of racing, engineered to perform with precision, and built with a degree of durability often overlooked. Our bikes are meant to be ridden hard and raced with panache, but most of all, enjoyed by those who love cycling.
NYC Velo is located in the East Village (2nd Avenue between 3rd and 4th Streets) and in Hell's Kitchen (590 W. 45th Street at 11th Avenue). Owner Andrew Crooks, with the help of his family and friends, and Freecell Architecture, restored the East Village space’s architectural elements and converted it into the most unique bike shop in Manhattan. A shop for cyclists, by cyclists. We believe a bike shop should be more than just a store – it should be a place for cyclists. NYC Velo is proud to have an area in the shop dedicated to rider relaxation, where cyclists can hang out, read a magazine, and enjoy espresso gratis from our Giro d’Italia-edition Giotto machine from Rocket Espresso.
Vittoria Northeast Cyclocross Series
Northeast Cyclocross Series has graduated riders like Page, Powers, and Johnson, families like the Anthony’s, Keogh’s, and Goguen's, and a new era of athletes Curtis and Emma White, and Ellen Noble. All the while, it continues to serve riders at every level, with separate races for Category 4 and Category 3 women, as well as 9-14 year old juniors, because we know those future champions have to start somewhere. Putting on UCI-level events means our amateur races are guaranteed a high quality course and experience, and they are our lifeblood.

New York State Bicycle Racing Association
The New York State Bicycle Racing Association (herein refered to as “NYSBRA”) was formed in 2007 in order to serve the needs of the bicycle racing community in the state of New York. The initial members of NYSBRA who helped to mold and shape NYSBRA into a working entity included Dieter Drake of Cambridge, Jeff Poulin of Endicott, Todd Scheske of Rochester, and Myles Romanow of Southampton.
In February of 2008, the founding members of NYSBRA agreed to a set of by-laws for which NYSBRA was to run its daily business. Those by-laws can be found here and are updated as needed by the members of NYSBRA. The initial Board of Directors was created which included the founding members mentioned above as well as a representative from each of the 6 regions of the state, as defined by the Empire State Games.
On March 14, 2008, NYSBRA president Dieter Drake signed an agreement with USA Cycling, the national governing body of the sport of competitive cycling in the United States, that gave NYBRA the right to administer the state of New York on a local level with financial and staff support from USA Cycling. This allows NYSBRA to maintain a statewide racing calendar and be able to serve the needs of the racers in the state, including rider category changes, event permitting, and the staffing of officials.
NYBRA secured tax-exempt status under rule 501c(3) of the IRS code in 2009. This allows NYSBRA to receive funding from USA Cycling and any other sponsorship opportunities that the NYSBRA Board of Directors should choose to pursue.
